We should always try to prevent quality problems before they
happen. A few things to keep in mind:
| Keep chemicals and pesticides away
from feeds. |
| |
- Chemicals may spill. Even small amounts
in the feed may make your animals ill. |
| Teach your family or employees about
proper care of your animals and proper quality assurance
methods. |
| |
- Sometimes you may need to have someone
else care for your animals.
- When someone else does care for your animals, always
give instructions on proper feeding, watering and housing,
as well as any medications they may need. |
| Try to follow quality assurance methods
at all times. |
| |
- If a problem occurs or you didnt
follow quality assurance procedures, talk to your veterinarian
or extension educator to find out what needs to be done. |
| Develop a herd management plan to
help keep your animals healthy. |
| |
- Know when to vaccinate your animals.
- Know when to treat your animals for parasites (worms,
lice, etc.).
- Work with family members, veterinarians and others to
learn about these procedures. |
